My Northern Queensland Adventure
In July 2017 my mate Reg and I travelled by car to Cairns for a week. On the 16th we went to the first of 2 NRL matches where the Cowboys beat the Rabbitohs. The following day we enjoyed the drive to Port Douglas, a beautiful part of the world. After a tour round the town we discovered a pub on the water front where we spent the next 2 or 3 hours admiring the view while having lunch and 3 or 4 rums, life was great. Another highlight was the Cairns show, walking round side show alley and checking out the exhibits. We found a bar next to ringside where we enjoyed the horse events and wood chopping which I witnessed while consuming a Dagwood dog, chips and Bundys, with water because it was a warm day. When the sun went down the motorbikes and cars burnt rubber round the track and the old show favourite the fabulous fireworks display placed the icing on the cake for a magnificent day. Other highlights were a drive to Barron Falls with a spectacular view of the city of Cairns and a challenging walking track that snakes round the mountain. We spent three hours at Mission Beach on route to Townsville; I walked along the foreshore on my walker and enjoyed fish and chips for lunch. While staying in Townsville Reg and I took the bus to 1300 Smiles Stadium and witnessed the second NRL match between the Cowboys and the Warriors. It was a fabulous close game with a few heated moments. The Cowboys got the better of the New Zealand team. Our final destination was my Uncle and Aunties place at the outskirts of North Rockhampton where they enjoyed hearing all about our interesting and fun packed journey.
