4RO, our local hero for almost 90 years

Rockhampton’s 2nd radio station after 4RK (now ABC Capricornia) in 1931, 990AM – 4RO has been broadcasting around CQ since July 1932. During 1930s and 40s, 4RO informed Central Queenslander’s about the Great depression, Don Bradman and World War 2, as well as playing the latest music and radio plays. Today 4RO is a talk back station and still widely listened to despite the arrival of television and the internet. To this very day CQ wakes up with Michael J Bailey, during the day, Ray Hadlee, DebrahKni Knight doing the drive shift, and the evenings John Stanley keeps us company on the airwaves. There’s a special spot for local radio and they are avid supports of local business that helps keep the community humming. I for one am most grateful for their support of the fundraising event I’m putting together for Movember. The Movember Munch if you hadn’t heard and 4RO are sponsoring by providing airtime to promote the event.

Long live local radio! Tune into 990AM or livestream through the web. www.4ro.com.au
