Drought Relief with Tony Cook
Farmers are the backbone of Australia’s food industry. Almost every food item was born on a farm, dairy farmers produces milk, cattle farm produces meat items, cane farmers grow sugarcane, and from the soil farmers grow our fruit and vegetables. Our farmers have to work under the full spectrum of weather conditions.
Dairy farmers still need to milk the cows in mid July when the morning temperature is below zero, while cattle farmers have to muster cattle in 35, 40 plus heat in February. At the beginning of this decade Queensland suffered from record breaking floods, in some cases floods occurred twice in 3 years, farmers were hit hard, crops were destroyed which also destroyed their livelihood.
Over the past 6, 7 years mother nature have brought another horrible element which has been the longest drought ever. Tony Cook, a country singer and farmer who loves the outback, arranged a fundraising concert for c q farmers. The concert was held at the Great Western Hotel on November 11th, entertainers from round the region performed to the country audience. Apart from the entry tickets auctions was held, items which people bid on were family passes to Gold Coast theme parks, a tablet and a spit-water.
